Transforming learning to make a better world
By harnessing the Institute’s strengths in research, pedagogical innovation, policy direction, and technology development, the pK-12 Initiative positions MIT to become a global leader in transforming pK-12 education. Key ideas include harnessing the power of AI and emerging technologies to transform teaching and learning; building foundational AI literacy and computational thinking skills; expanding access to high-quality STEM and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education through innovative tools and pedagogies; and empowering young people to engage with real-world challenges—such as climate change, public health, and biotechnology—with creativity, purpose, and ethical responsibility. The pK-12 Initiative will focus on the following three priorities: AI and computing for pK-12; AI-supported learning to expand the STEM pipeline; and science, society, and youth.
